The Color of Nanogold
The standard models tell us that the yellowish color of gold is due to
the sloshing about of its electrons. Like water in a bathtub, these
electrons slosh about particularly well at one particular frequency, called
the plasmon resonance. The solid absorbs light of this frequency and thus
looks yellow.
